In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada embarked on a remarkable journey by ship from Calcutta to the United States in order to fulfil the instructions of his spiritual master. His mission was to convey the timeless wisdom of Bhagavad-gita and the path of devotion, by establishing the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in the Western world.
Following Srila Prabhupada’s instructions to spread the teachings of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, HH Bhakti Charu Swami established various preaching initiatives, temples and farm projects around the world.

HH Bhakti Charu Swami established temples and farm projects around the world such as Ujjain, Panihati, Kuti and Deland.
HH Bhakti Charu Swami established Arogya Niketan, a traditional Ayurvedic Clinic in Ujjain, India.

HH Bhakti Charu Swami gave guidance and inspiration to devotees all over the world with his profound spiritual knowledge, his sublime rendition of devotional bhajans and his unalloyed devotion to Srila Prabhupada and ISKCON.
HH Bhakti Charu Swami fulfilled Srila Prabhupada’s instruction to translate all of his works into the Bengali language.
Between 1993 and 2002 HH Bhakti Charu Swami published 19 issues of the Spiritual Connections magazine. Publication of the magazine was revived in 2020.
HH Bhakti Charu Swami was a leading exponent of Vedic wisdom and was renowned for his insightful lectures and melodic devotional singing.
Memoir by HH Bhakti Charu Swami
In 2014 His Holiness was requested by his god-brothers to write his memoir about his service to ISKCON and Srila Prabhupada. Maharaja agreed to write the book and entitled it Ocean of Mercy: A Search Fulfilled.
Maharaja’s friend, Dr Carl Herzig (Kalachandji Dasa), Professor Emeritus at St Ambrose University Davenport USA, agreed to edit the book and later asked Maharaja to include additional material about his early life and his search for his spiritual master.
The memoir was completed and published in 2016. Maharaja describes his childhood and youth in India, his travels through Europe, his search for a guru in India, how he joined ISKCON, and his intimate service to Srila Prabhupada until his departure in 1977.
